Buying Assistant - Global Retailer

Our client, an international retailer, is looking to recruit a Buying Assistant for the categories Chilled, Produce, Tea & Coffee, Fresh Fish, Alcohol and Ambient. This is an ideal opportunity for a driven and capable individual with previous buying/procurement or quality assurance experience.


As a National Buying Assistant, you’ll play an incredibly important role in the whole Buying process. Working closely with a Buying Director, you’ll make sure that they have everything they need to negotiate the best deals.


That involves keeping up communication with suppliers and people across the business and making sure that every tender process is managed effectively. From ensuring they have great working relationships with suppliers, to crunching the numbers and putting tender documents and contracts together, you’ll get involved in every aspect of the buying lifecycle. You might even get the chance to recommend products to your Buying Director and make presentations. Obviously, you’ll need to be well organised and a good communicator, with an eye for detail and the ability to analyse statistics effectively.


Key Requirements:

  • Relevant Bachelor's degree, ideally in Procurement, Food Science, Food Technology, Food Business or general business or related discipline

  • Ability to work on own initiative

  • Commercially minded

  • Experience in a busy, deadline driven environment

  • Prior experience working with 3rd party agencies

  • Prior experience of working in a team environment

  • Polite and professional manner

  • Examples of a systematic work ethic

  • Impeccable attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and administration skills

  • Proficient IT skills

  • Full driver’s licence
